Valkyria Chronicles/Mass Effect

So, you know this guy, right? The one proposing to Riela Marcellis from the Valkyria Chronicles series?



He's Blake, my Darcsen OC that's been my secretly obsessive project for years. He originally started out as a Halo character (crazy, right?), but Blake has gone through so many changes over the years to get to how he looks right now. I'm finally satisfied with how he looks, but now I've run into an even bigger dilemma; WHAT KIND OF STORY DO I USE HIM FOR?!    

I will admit it to the world, right off the bat. I've always been a crossover nut, and for the longest time, I've wanted to write just such a story for two of my favorite game series of all time: Sega's Valkyria Chronicles, and Bioware's Mass Effect. While both are as far from each other's genre as you can imagine, one being Fantasy Military set in an alternate WWII, while the other is pure Science Fiction, both are RPGs, which to me means that they both have casts of wonderfully memorable characters, just wait for the audience to bond with and care about over the course of their journeys. 

But I ran into an issue pretty fast. I was adamant about keeping Blake as a Darcsen, due to the facts that I consider every Darcsen character in VC to be pure awesome in their own ways (ESPECIALLY dear old Lynn of Squad 7 & Imca of the Nameless), but also, as you can tell, I love the idea of a relationship between a Darcsen and a Valkyria. It's never really been used before, and on a personal level, I kind of thought of it as... well, tender & sweet in a way. Certainly a sharp contrast compared to how their ancestors were punching each other's lights out during the War of the Valkyrur two millennia back.

But if I'm trying to combine VC with Mass Effect, how would I include Blake in this? I'm wasn't sure how I could get away with making him a dimensional castaway growing up in the ME 'verse, not that the idea wasn't appealing in it's own right in some ways! But that left me racking my brains for a solution on how I was going to pull this crossover off.

Funny enough, it took watching a couple of old Star Trek episodes for me to remember that, yes, traveling to alternate Earths was a common thing in science fiction and not so off-beat at all, and that I would just be following an example that had worked with screenwriters and sci-fi authors time and again! Heck, Mass Effect itself already has that Star Trekky vibe going for it anyway; all I have to do now is inject some of that Science Fantasy flair from Star Trek, and now I've got my crossover! Pretty neat, huh?
